Buddy Teevens can say something similar. In 2004 (his last year), they started out 3-1 with multi-TD victories over Washington, BYU and SJSU; and a three-point loss to #1 USC at Stanford. He had a three-point loss to #23 Arizona, three-point loss to Oregon and a five-point loss to Oregon State. They went 4-7 but had four losses of less than a TD. All that stood between Buddy and an 8-3 record were four TDs, either on offense or defense. But he lost to Cal, 41-6. Nice guys finish up back at Dartmouth -- ultimately with four 9-1 seasons and two 8-2 seasons. And if you visit Dartmouth today, you can see the Buddy Teevens Stadium and the Buddy Teevens Center for Peak Performance. Not bad.

Back to this year's team, I still haven't heard discussion about how the 2025 team is improved over the 2023 and 2024 teams, other than coaching and the strength of schedule. It seems to me that there will be equal or less talent in every position group, especially QB.

When I Google "stanford football returning starters 2025," Google's AI tells me that "Key players like quarterback Kevin Jennings, linebacker Tevarua Tafiti, and safety Jay Green are expected to be major contributors." That would be great if it were true. Kevin Jennings is the starting QB for SMU...

(3) Stanford's transfer class has 17(!) incoming student-athletes.
(4) Stanford's freshman class, which ranks 56th nationally, has a 4-star WR.

Overall, according to 247, Stanford has 35 incoming players total. Not that rankings are perfect, but there are only three 4-stars among that group. Overall, 247 ranks this group as 54th nationally.

He as recruited by Northwestern, so he has to have something on the ball academically. He came in as a starter last four games of last season, crushed Arizona 56-12, lost a close one to ASU 31-35, lost by 10 to west VA, then by two TDs to Utah. UCF finished 4-8 but started 3-0. He's the best returning QB, my guess is they told him it'd be an open competition. Former Cardinal Scott Frost is the recently named head coach at UCF, and transfer Cam Fancher had 6 starts and transfer Tayven Jackson had the most talent upside, so...adios Rizk.
