#4 Stanford MWP easily won yesterday, but against #5 Long Beach State this morning, Stanford was down 5-2 at the end of the 1st period and 7-6 at the half. A good third period put Stanford up, but LBSU came back late to tie the game. Stanford prevailed in the OT 19-16.
#4 Stanford is currently playing #1 UCLA in their pool. Stanford is up 5-4 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Live stats: https://scores.6-8sports.com/scoreboard
UCLA ties it up 7-7 late the first half.
In the 3rd quarter, Stanford has been called for 13 ejections so far in the game while UCLA has only been called for 4. (That's 6 to 0 in the 3rd quarter!) But Stanford has earned two penalty shots in the game; UCLA one (each team getting one in the 3rd)
However, Stanford scored the first 3 goals of the 2nd half. Now 10-8 after 3 quarters.
In the 4th, UCLA ties it at 10 without an exclusion on Stanford, but Stanford scores again to get back in front 11-10.
UCLA takes its first lead 13-12 with 1:15 to go.
Stanford gets one more shot, but no go.
The stat line shows the final score UCLA 13 - Stanford 12
but in natural goals, it was UCLA 5 - Stanford 8
The 15 exclusions and 2 penalties called on Stanford in UCLA's pool far outweighed the 5 exclusions and 2 penalties called on UCLA.
I didn't watch the game, but that differential seems, uh, an outlier.
(In the earlier games today, that had 2 overtime periods the exclusions + penalties for each team were LBSU 16+5 Stanford 15+1 and UCDavis 9+1 UCLA 10+1)
