Maybe no magic today. Top 8, bases loaded, one run home, 9-2, 2 out. Jeon lines a grounder up the middle. Pitcher snags it, easy out at first.

First ACC series win of the season, with, I hope many more to come. Stanford now 13-13 overall, 3-6 in conference.
Up next is a home series starting on Friday vs Clemson, 19-10, 2-7.

If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)

Gripe about Gostanford.com.
Went to look at the stats for today's game at 4:30 (more or less). Game's been over for about 3 hours. Saw this:

Sasaki question. Sitting at home watching the stream it sure looks like the strike zone for him extends higher than usual. Perspective from the camera angles or real?

That’s the second time in this series Stanford has sent the runner on first with Sasaki at the plate. Why?

Looks like a beautiful day at Sunken Diamond.
Homers from Ready Teddy Tokheim and Eric Jeon, but we’re tied at 4-4, T5 and working on our 4th pitcher. Let’s go bats!
Make that 5th pitcher now…

Did the Clemson pitcher balk or not?

Clemson just pounded our pitching. It was tough to watch and endure a 4-hour game in the blazing sun.
At 4-8, Stanford baseball is tied for 14th place in the ACC with Clemson--15th seed since Clemson won 2 of 3 at Sunken Diamond last weekend. Up next is a visit to 5-7 Louisville starting Friday afternoon Pacific time. There are still six 3-game series remaining versus conference foes, but pitching and/or defense continue to hold the team back. In conference games Stanford is dead last in ERA (8.23!) and, correspondingly, 15th in opponents' batting average (.323). They are 11th in fielding percentage with 14 errors in 12 games.
On the bright side, Stanford is #2 in slugging percentage (.532), first in HRs/game and #8 in on-base percentage (.377). Teddy Tokheim is hitting .400 through 12 ACC games with an OPS of 1.374, which is 2nd in the conference.
As others have noted, Stanford lost two of our starting pitchers from last year to the transfer portal. A third pitcher, who was an all-star reliever in last summer's Cape Cod League, is still on the roster but hasn't played at all this season. I was hoping that the available pitchers would improve with time, but that hasn't been the case (yet).

Stanford at Louisville: “Sure, let’s start the freshman. Can’t possibly be any worse.”
Correct after 1. Only down 2-0.

That freshman, Quinten Marsh, had the second-lowest starting-pitcher ERA entering the game (6.10 ERA). He lasted one inning and his ERA is now over 7--which still makes him better than most of our SPs this season.
It's now a bullpen game for the Cardinal. Colt Peterson--6.75 ERA entering the game--didn't allow a run in the 2nd, still 0-2 in the top of the 3rd.
