It was probably in the dialectic and all, but still, someone has to resist the inevitable tides of history. Come, humorists, we have only our chains to lose -- and a world to win.

WIM, I hope that headline writers across the country have ample opportunity to wordplay with the name of the Stanford FB.

Against SJS - Marxist runs over Spartans
Against USC - Marxist runs over Trojans
Against ASU - Marxist shows there is a God, rolls Sun Devils
Against ND - Spectre of Marxism invades South Bend (pregame); Marxist > Touchdown Jesus (postgame)

Frosh fullback's value to team roughly equivalent to that of each player on roster
But are some more "phenomenal" than others?

Given recent headlines I simply hope for - "No class struggle for this Marx" with a picture of Daniel hitting the books.

Too many jokes. Worried my first try won't be good enough.

Shaw needs him in games just for the signs in the crowd.

Somewhere in America there is a young running back named Engels, and he's filling out his Stanford application as we speak.

Instead of fictional characters you could have used Beria and Gus Hall.  I would also have suggested the openly Marxist (seriously) Stanford econ professor that taught Econ 1 when I was there, but his name escapes me at the moment.

Publius, you're quite a bit younger than me I think so I would be amazed if you are referring to John Gurley.  Was he still there?  It is probably a different openly Marxist econ professor, I suppose.

Yes!  Gurley.  That was him.  As I recall he was long in the tooth.  Supposedly he did a great job teaching Econ 1.

EDIT: He's still there!

Well, Gurley's emeritus. Sometimes emeriti get called back to teach, but essentially they never lose their emeritus status as long as they're still vertical.

The biggest flaw of Team Marxism, by the by, is putting Khruschev and Stalin on the same side of the line. They oughta fire that fancy Oxford offensive coordinator they hired in the offseason.

I would be willing to bet that there are more than a few members of Congress who would argue that J.M. Keynes belongs on Team Communism, not Team Capitalism.

Considering Keynes ran one of the first hedge funds -- and was quite successful at it -- they are wrong.

Obviously, Milton Friedman is on the Injured Reserve because he is definitely first string ahead of Keynes on the depth chart.

I can see Daniel playing in coach Wagstaff Sr's single wing, along with Pinky, Baravelli and Wagstaff Jr.  However, being a Stanford person, he might just rebel as per Groucho....

Nothing like a ice axes and assassination plots to spice up team building exercises.
