So what is the difference between a Mathematics major and Math Sciences?

Think of Mathematical Sciences as Applied Math. Many of the students in that program would have done a major in Computer Sciences if it existed at the time.

My roommate (who is definitely not a sports fan, and would not be found on this board, although he was a varsity athlete) dual majored in Mathematical Sciences and Political Science. Everyone always assumed that Mathematical Sciences was his "real" major, but he cared more about PoliSci and has spent his entire career in DC, shifting between government jobs and academics.
