Generally, although this team is still very young, and their results are highly variable, they at least supply a high entertainment value... Â That was true at Friday night\'s game, where they came from behind in the eighth to win 8 - 7 over the WSU Cougars in front of a crowd of over 6,000 (fireworks night). Â Saturday, they had the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn\'t finish. Â Today, they led until the ninth, when they gave up seven runs (ouch) to lose 9 - 3. Â Kenny Diekroger continues his hitting streak, now at 21 games! Â
Pitching seems to have improved substantially. Â I can\'t tell how much is the contribution of new pitching coach, Rusty Filter (god, I hate that name) and how much is just the progress of the season... Â Brett Mooneyham, who was woeful early in the year, giving up loads of walks, has improved dramatically ("who are you and what have you done with Brett?") and was very strong behind the mound Friday. Â A couple of freshmen looked good this weekend. Â Notably, Sahil Bloom, ERA 0.00, who got the win on Friday, and Dean McArdle, who started and looked great for the duration of his outing, today.
I don\'t know whether they\'ll make it to the post-season, losing this series will not help them, and they still have to play ASU, number one in the Pac-10. Â
