I wonder if, on top of his income, Shaw is afforded a preferred position in certain investments which would be both lucrative and highly unlikely at other schools.  The 990 only references Stanford income, not all of Shaw's income.  Just wondering aloud.

Coach Shaw is likely getting a healthy chunk of money from a variety of sources.  However, I would guess your average big program State U coach likely gets more from those same type of sources.  Shaw could have an equity stake in a few Stanford sports related start-ups, so that could help.

I am more amazed by JD's $1.8.  Stanford might pay Coach Shaw less per win than JD this academic year.
