I have only one piece of anecdotal evidence (hearsay to boot, so take with large grains of salt please) that the position coach pay is not what a prior school paid, but the housing (within golf-cart driving distance) goes a long way towards making living in the Bay Area feasible. Sounds to me like we're not quite paying market rate for all coaches, but at least providing perks.
