I voted for the 7 game "local" prelim and a 64 team knockout, and not only because I have thought for some time that this is the most likely end game of the headlong dash to cash that has become NCAA football. For another thing, it would allow us to resurrect the Pac-8 and other traditional conferences. Also, you (largely) get rid of the influence of the sports hacks, cutty sarked coaches and computer nerds in deciding who plays whom and when.
I must admit that I had a serious brain freeze when I tried to work out all the computations, permutations and logistics of this scenario a few years ago, but I am confident that the rocket scientists on this board will take up where I lifted off ("left off" surely, Ed.)
