Rebounding was an interesting facet of the game. Texas had fast, active guards who tracked down rebounds more quickly than Stanford's players (giving up "offensive rebounds" during FTs should be a crime)--and Texas also had a pair of 6'7" and 6'5" centers. No such size for Stanford on the court today. Someone remarked that Tara seemed to be still testing out her roster and seeing what kind of lineups were more effective.Â
81alum pointed out the multiple layups from inbounds and guard penetration. Yup. I'm not sure why Stanford was unable to defend those early on.
I don't know if Texas is really #5 in the nation as their ranking declares, but they're a good team. Great guards, decent size down low (if maddening for the bigs' inability to hit bunnies). The other thing is that the Texas guards were shooting midrange jumpers well, and that surely doesn't always happen throughout a season.
I hope Stanford learns to not be afraid of the ball! More confidence and assertiveness, please :)
