I think Lyons had to have been considered a projected starter.  We lost 4/5 of our secondary, and Lyons would likely have started the year as the cornerback opposite Harris, or, less likely, he could have taken one of the two safety spots.

Unless he was really in the doghouse, he would have started for us this year.

As for why he left, remember, Michigan hired his mom.
