Amen!
College students are still somewhat immature and make mistakes (and so do those of us who are, shall we say, exceedingly mature). Thankfully, this mistake didn't wind up with anyone physically hurt.
Forgiveness & consequences can co-exist. The more serious the offense, the more serious the consequence, even for a first-time offense.Â
I haven't looked in detail at the public statements, but it sounds to me like the incident by the players should be on their shoulders, not the school's (nor the team's nor the law enforcement agency's). It seems like the school has taken appropriate actions to deal with the situation. I believe the school had no particular reason to suspect this situation might happen. When it did happen, the institution acted quickly to indicate the situation was not acceptable. Â
This is a far cry from other incidents that come to mind where we believe a school (and law enforcement in some cases) was aware of situations and didn't act responsibly, allowing those situations to reoccur. In those incidents, there were victims.
