I've been lurking for a bit, as I'm actually conflicted about the Stanford-KSU game. I was born and raised in Manhattan, KS. In fact, before I arrived at Stanford, the farthest west I had traveled was Brookville, KS, west of Salina. When I was a kid, the Wildcats were so bad--Ellis Rainsberger anyone?--and blowouts so frequent, that the home sections of the football stadium would empty out during the second half. So the stadium staff let in folks for free at the beginning of the fourth quarter. I saw a lot of great second- and third-stringers for Oklahoma, Nebraska and the like during those days.
In any case, one week from Friday, my childhood team will take on my alma mater. I'll cheer on Stanford, but will feel bad for K-State if/when the Wildcats lose.
And for folks who haven't noticed or haven't cared enough to look it up, DC Cat's slogan, EMAW, stands for "Every Man A Wildcat."

If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
