Stanford 31
UCLA 23
The score might indicate a replay of the SC game, but it's a much more dynamic game that feels much more in play throughout, largely because of Rosen making our defense pay much more than Browne did. That said, you live by the Rosen, you die by the Rosen, and we get three picks, hampering Rosen's ability to bring the Bruins back. Christian does his thing and gets another 200+ rushing/receiving yards (skewed more to the receiving side than usual given UCLA's solid DL play and commitment to stopping him), and I think this is the game where he breaks a couple of long kickoff returns, too. Burns is able to handle the defensive pressure, relying a lot on Schultz/Taboada over the middle and McCaffrey in the flat for tough yards and third-down conversions. We lead something like 17-6 at half, and we're all a little frustrated. The fourth quarter is nerve-wracking, as our offense is pretty conservative to burn clock, while UCLA starts to close the gap (while the need to throw also leads Rosen into a couple of those INTs), but we answer when we need to.Â
But stormtrooper white jerseys in the Rose Bowl? I think our guys are more than OK with that.Â
