But football points are awarded per USA Today's final Coaches poll -- and Stanford has just been ranked 12th. Last year that meant 64.5 points; if history repeats, the Cardinal now have 506.5 points. Neither UCLA (348), North Carolina (320) nor BYU (267.5) earned any football points.
FarmDad, I offer a few corrections to your post.
The Cardinal have 440 points through the December 22 scoring release. Adding the 64.5 for 12th place in football raises the unofficial total to 504.5. This is a strong result, especially given that we were concerned about matching last year's Fall total of 480 after early tournament exits by WFH and WSOC. And scoring was very balanced, with three Men's teams earning 254.5 points and four Women's teams earning 250 points.
For quick reference, the football points structure follows below:
FBS Football
The following breakdown will be used:
1st place - 1-25 using the final USA Today poll (comes out after the National Championship game), point breakdown is as follows: We will be using the 64-team non-bracket point system for the top-25 teams with 25th place receiving 49 points.
26th place - Bowl game winners not ranked in poll (45 points)
Next Available Place - Bowl game losers not ranked in the poll (25 points)
UCLA stayed home and earned no Football points. BYU won their bowl game with Wyoming and earned 45 points. UNC earned 25 points in their Sun Bowl loss.
Geaux Cardinal!
