I think it was 1989, maybe 1990. Went to Stanford's first MBB win ever in Pauley Pavilion with two friends from college. One of them brought kazoos and every time the UCLA fight song was played we hummed right along with our kazoos. Yes we were young and obnoxious. So be it.
Trevor Wilson went 0-10 or something like that from the line, including missing two in the final seconds of the game. We were yelling "Treeeeee-vor" so often and so loud that several UCLA fans sitting in front of us moved away. Yes we were young and obnoxious. So be it.
I was at that game, too, winflop, although, while I was young, I wasn't quite so obnoxious, as I was dating a Bruin whom I eventually married. But I did wear my Stanford basketball shirt and allowed myself to share a few high-fives with Stanford fans I did not know (maybe you were one of them?) on the way out of Pauley! If there's one thing people have learned in Berkeley, it's that you can't put "Cal football" and "Rose Bowl" in the same sentence. The words just don't fit. You'd be better off linking "covered wagons" with "Mars travel." (Bruce Jenkins, Cal '70, SF Chronicle, Nov. 11, 2017)
