Some ... odd comments on McCaffrey from The Ringer (starts 17:45): https://theringer.com/ringer-nfl-show-po....3lgc96si8

Watched Cal, KSU, U$C  "This guy doesn't seem like an NFL running back...doesn't seem like a guy you want lined up on first down"

"I don't think he has the big burst."

"He is not a tackle breaker...he will elude, but won't rip through arm tackles.  Good burst, not special.  12-15 yard carries will turn into 4-6 yards.  Has very good vision, very good feet, big burst, but not big power.  will have to fight harder.  4th RB behind Kumar, behind Joe Mixon for a while.  Mixon character issue.  Personal character can leak into football character."

Other host thought he was a WR.

"I think he's a gadget player who can tuurn into a nightmare for DC's if employed by the OC.  He's so good at understanding space...he destroyed someone against USC that just cooked the DB.  He does better as a route runner.  I rarely saw a one-cut and go from his as an RB."

"I understand people's willingness to get away from (racial expectations) you tend to look for that kind of player.  You have a tendency to shift to that kind of player...McCaffrey plays like Jarvis McAndry of Miami.  Your comparison is not going to be Toby Gearhart.  He's NOTHING like Toby Gerhart.  My comp is Tiki Barber.  He's built like Kiki, same shiftiness and elusiveness.  Not every down.  Not a compliment, but if McCaffrey played with Doc rivers, he would get 70-80 catches, like Danny Woodhead. "

"His route running...everyone knows how good he is with his routes.  If he isn't going to run a ton, how high can he go?  I have no idea how much we should value those guys.  More and more, they're central to the situation, but they never go in the Top 20.  It's been a long time since a pass-catching RB was taken in the first round, not since Reggie Bush."

"We have to remember that we're flawed, we're forced to look through a lens with 32 filters.  How high are you willing to go for a pass-catching RB?  For a Carolina Panthers, it's a 3 on a scale of 1-10.  For the Patriots, it's a 9."

"You know what New England does?  They strike off 60% of the players.  Their filter is much more different than (you and I).  Their approach is different and broad.  An NFL team may think he's sixth best, but tey won't overdraft.  NFL teams ca nhave a fine tuned filter, but the typical team will have a narrow filter.  You and I don't get to evaluate each player and use our biases.

"Tahta's why McCaffrey is so interesting.  He might fit in Tampa Bay.  (great call! said other host).  They need to do something, Simms is underrated, but if you use MCCaffrey in the slot, it works perfectly with Tampa's puzzle, but there aren't that many plays in their book that use a guy like McCaffrey.  But that has to go to their frame of mind.  No way to understand the value system.  I don't envy mock drafters."
