My daughter was accepted to Under Stanford Control (again), ×ÉÉ, Pomona, and a bunch of others. She applied to 11 which was about the norm at her high school. Prior to Friday, the only school to reject her was UCLA. Great grades, test scores, blah, blah, blah...
She has been to the Women's Final 4. The Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl, and just about every other significant Stanford sports event and banquet. Her blood was RGB 140, 21, 21.
She was rejected by Stanford on Friday.
I love Stanford and the world it opened up for me. But today, I love Stanford a little less.
And for the next few years I have to listen to that idiotic "This is the only song we know" ring tone that my daughter installed on my smartphone.
Was just on campus yesterday for an alum event and several of us lamented the near impossibility of having our children follow our footsteps. My son, who is now a freshman at Northwestern, didn't even apply, mostly because he wanted to go away for college (which is what I did, coming from NYC to the Farm, so who am I to object?!) but also because his high school has a lousy track record of getting kids into Stanford (despite being the top public high school in San Francisco) and the amount of time it would take to write the four supplemental essays. He's happy (so far) in Evanston, and I have to admit that I started following their MBB this season. No torn allegiances on 8/31/2019, however!
