Each of the semifinal teams (Oklahoma, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Oregon) had 3 different players win tournaments this season.  Stanford had one. 

... Stanford was not really at the same level as these teams.

So, how are the rankings created?

I note that going into the tournament, the rankings were:
#2 Stanford
#3 Oklahoma
#4 Vanderbilt
#8 Illinois
#9 Oregon
