Having gone to both an Ivy and to Stanford from Baltimore I found them very different. Good education in both places but the type of fellow student and other available activities was very different, not to mention the weather/environment, and of course the big time athletics. I think there this is plenty to educate an 18 year old about, but maybe I'm just old and kids today understand these things already. But in my mind, if they do there would be no reason to consider these other schools unless geographic proximity was the key.
