The first half was disappointing but not surprising. I was hoping the Dline and MLBs were improving to the point to of being able to compensate Phillips absence, by that clearly wasnt the case. Our D line was getting blown out of their lanes making LBs and DBs make tackles in space. To their credit, they only gave up 7 points despite all the rushing yards and did make some key stops when it counted.
I was happy with our run D in the second half. It wasnt amazing, but Oregon is a good running team and the fact is we just dont have an elite Front 7 this year. If our Offense continues to play well, the 2nd half run D combined with an increasingly opportunistic secondary will give us a good chance against any but the elite rushing attacks, which we dont face again.
