And it's Gordon! 7-5, 6-2, and Michaela Gordon is your ITA Northwest Regional Champion!
After Gordon broke Arbuthnott to take the first set, Arbuthnott returned the favor by breaking Gordon to open the second, only for another break of serve to make it 1-1. Gordon then held to 2-1, and broke Arbuthnott (on a really well-played deciding point) to go up 3-1, but Arbuthnott responded with a well-played deciding point of her own, breaking Gordon to get back on serve at 3-2. Gordon got the break back to go up 4-2 and had a steady service game to go up 5-2. Serving to stay in the match, Arbuthnott showed a lot of good (crisper, commanding ground strokes) and bad (two double faults, a mishit), but it was Gordon's consistency in the game that decided it. Gordon is the third Stanford freshman since 2010 to win the ITA Regionals, and the way in which she did it--not dropping a set, and winning 10 of 12 sets by 6-2 or better, including 6-1, 6-0 scorelines in both the quarters and the semis--shows we got a really good one in Michaela Gordon.Â
