When Costello fumbled in the 4th qtr and it appeared to be recovered by Marx, there was a review. It turned out to be just about where to spot the ball. At the time, neither announcer was very engaged with the question of who recovered the fumble other than Blackledge's comment that it might be U$C's ball. In the time they had, they could have gone into what actually happened on that play. I try to stay away from blaming players, or even Pac-12 refs, but this pair were just downright grating to listen to all evening.
Well, to be fair, they had to show more shots of Tee Martin in the USC booth and ask really compelling questions about his potential to be the next Tennessee head coach.
The telecast production was bad. They would come back from replays late showing long replays while USC is running a no huddle offense. In their discussion of Love at the half, they didn't mention at all that in Love's previous three games, he had mediocre first halfs but dominated in the second halfs (which would have been a good comment considering love have over 90 yards again in the second half last night). It didn't seem like Tessitore or Blackledge had watched any of the games USC or Stanford had played recently. And of course, they must have spent 10 minutes with graphics talking about Tee Martin and the dumpster fire head coaching search at Tennessee. Yes ESPN, in a tight close game in the first half, the audience tuning into to watch a Pac-12 game wants to hear MORE about the god damn SEC. Instead of showing some replays and missing some actual live action, their producer kept cameras on an assistant coach staring at the field.
