Certainly would hope Stanford isn't offering a guy like this at this time of the year, just to throw its hat in the ring. For me, offers at this time of year for the next year's class should only be made to guys who tell the coaching staff they are really serious about Stanford. Otherwise, what's the point of offering?
It seems these boxes should be checked before offering anyone at this time of year for the next year's class:
- Has requisite GPA or is close
- Planning Spring OV and/or camping Summer before Senior year
- Planning AP classes in Fall
- Willing to enroll in January
It's frankly hard for me to believe the #1 ILB recruit in the country checks all those boxes. But maybe he does, and the universe is aligning perfectly.
Another one should be
-Has a reasonable shot at getting an acceptable SAT/ACT score.
I think we have offered a couple of guys in the past with ACT's around 18. Thinking they are going to be able to get them up to 26 (or whatever we are requiring these days) is a bit delusional.

The father of a Director's Cup athlete told me that the coach said his child had the lowest score in the history of their program at a 28 ACT
