Men's golf has several questions heading into the Pac-12 tourney. I don't envy Conrad in trying to pick the right lineup...
Jeffrey Swegle, a senior who nobody expected to be a regular member of the lineup, has had a good sprint and played #1 at Western Intercollegiate and lived up to his position, with the lowest aggregate score for the team. However, he finished behind Bradley Knox, who was playing as an individual. That means Knox went into the tournament as #7 on the team, but he finished best of any Stanford player. If he had been in the lineup, Stanford probably finishes third instead of sixth. Knox was expected to be a regular, but played himself out of the lineup earlier in the spring. So, do you insert him into the lineup for the Pac-12s?
Brandon Wu, who played really well in the fall, is playing decent. Franklin Huang, who was supposed to be the #1, is playing solidly, but not great. Same story with Isaiah Salinda. Two underclassmen, Henry Shimp and Ashwin Arasu, have been given their chances and have done OK. David Snyder also made the lineup for this last tournament.
Conrad has 5 guys vying for the final three spots at the Pac 12 (Wu, Swegle, Huang are safe). Then cut one more for the Regionals. Just hope that Conrad can pick the hot hands, or this team won't make the NCAA championships. Last year he went with experience, which would mean Swegle, Huang, Wu, Salinda, Knox and Shimp.
