My Higuchi prediction looks pretty good so far, as she's already booked her first set. She certainly didn't come out flat today!
1. Gordon leads 4-3 (up a break)
2. Lord leads 5-2
3. Lampl tied 4-4
4. Arbuthnott leads 4-3
5. Shin leads 4-1
6. Higuchi leads 6-0, 1-1
Meanwhile, UCLA isn't letting losing the doubles point get to them in the other semi, charging back to win 4 first sets by lopsided margins, with the other two tied.
2-0 Stanford, as Higuchi assumes her traditional position as the first player off court. Shin was the last to finish her first set, and she did it just a minute or so before Higuchi finished her match.
We got every first set, but Wazzu isn't done yet, taking early second-set leads on Courts 2 and 3.
1. Gordon leads 6-3, 3-3
2. Lord leads 6-3, 2-4
3. Lampl leads 7-5, 1-3
4. Arbuthnott leads 6-3, 4-0
5. Shin leads 6-2, 1-1
6. Higuchi won 6-0, 6-2 (both school's Twitter feeds say the first set was 6-1, but live scoring says 6-0)
Over in the other semi, UCLA has taken a 2-1 lead following dominant wins from Altick on Court 4 (6-0, 6-1, quite a turnaround from two weeks ago when Altick needed three sets to beat Slaysman) and Miller on Court 6. ASU only took one first set, but they forced third sets at Court 1 (John-Baptiste now leads Shibahara 1-6, 6-0, 1-0) and Court 3 (where Fossa Huergo now leads 1-6, 6-2, 3-0).
Stanford 3, Wazzu 0 as Arbuthnott books a win
1. Gordon leads 6-3, 5-3
2. Lord leads 6-3, 4-4 (Lord has won 4 straight after going down 4-0)
3. Lampl leads 7-5, 2-4
4. Arbuthnott won 6-3, 6-0 (this second set *flew* by--perhaps yesterday's match finally caught up with Mylonas)
5. Shin leads 6-2, 1-2 (down a break)
6. Higuchi won 6-0, 6-2
Really rooting for Gordon to get a win here and avenge her previous loss to Bayerlova. She'll serve for her match and to clinch right now.
Gordon had a couple of game points at 5-3 to end it, but couldn't close it out; Lord had a deciding point up 5-4 that would have ended it, but it went the other way, and then Lord dropped a service game. Stanford 3, Wazzu 0 with the following matches on court:
1. Gordon leads 6-3, 6-5
2. Lord leads 6-3, 5-6
3. Lampl leads 7-5, 4-5
5. Shin leads 6-2, 2-3
Over at the other semi, UCLA leads 3-1 with the following 3 matches still going:
1. UCLA leads 4-2 in the 3rd
3. ASU leads 5-3 in the 3rd
5. ASU leads 7-5, 5-3
ASU needs all three to pull it off.
