The Redrumette took full advantage of the expansive feast of Stanford's extracurricular activities during her undergrad and grad school time there. SO much more open and open to exploring than I was. She (sorry) manned-up for the 5 ayem mornings and the double sessions. Not typical rower physique but stuck with it and got to compete. I got into rowing a single long after I graduated, so I got to know the positive feedback that comes the mechanics and timing right and the boat just...well what real rowers call "swing." Rowers, if they're lucky, get a lot of that: done right, everybody's power is your personal power. Men and women rowers, I envy them and its an occasional kick to cross the Tennessee river and see the local college crew rowing against the muddy current. Beautiful sport. Loved the pics but found the Bay was never that smooth or glassy for me, except when later in life when we were sailboat racing. Funny how that works.
