They added up the 5th (unused) scores each day. UCLA had a lower cumulative drop score than Alabama.
Why didn't they do this with Baylor and Arizona? Or were they still tied after counting their cumulative drop scores?
With elimination for one team riding on the outcome, ties for 8th place are broken on the golf course. Each team sends all 5 players on the course to play the same holes. Low 4 of 5 scores count. Arizona and Baylor were tied after the 1st playoff hole. Arizona was -2 and Baylor was +1 after the 2nd playoff hole. Stanford lost the national championship to Oklahoma State in a playoff in 1995 (Tiger's frosh year), though the playoff format was different.
