I am bullish on Stanford women's golf and Coach Walker. She was a fantastic find (from UC Davis). I think everything is in place for Stanford to continue to be a national title contender despite the limited pool of admittable players.
To get over the hump and win it all, Stanford has to get better production from the bottom of the lineup at the national tournament. This year, that would be Mika Liu and Ziyi Wang. Among the 84 players completing 4 rounds of medal play, they finished 76th and 82nd. They were 0-4 in match play. Mika Liu may have been weakened from the flu. But Ziyi Wang, who had finished 4th in the Pac 12 tournament and 2nd at the NCAA regionals, seemed overwhelmed. I hope that she (and her teammates) can turn this experience into a positive so that they come back next season with resolve and greater confidence. The national championship will be competed at The Blessings GC at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. A Robert Trent Jones Jr course, not Tom Fazio. But the challenges should be similar to Karsten Creek.
