Given the short career of a football player, I would never choose Texas over Stanford if I had offers to both schools.

Either are perfectly reasonable choices for you guys personally, but that's rather the point - it depends upon what you value personally.

I don't see that objectively Stanford is missing anything that Texas or Michigan offer. Stanford has certainly been a better football team than Texas lately, and over a decade has been better than Michigan. Stanford has excellent facilities. Stanford puts plenty of guys into the NFL.

What distinguishes Stanford is having to perform academically to get in, having to perform academically after arriving, rather smaller crowds, and somewhat lower level of hero-worship. Depending upon your values, those are either positives or negatives.
