Can someone explain why Stanford has been so unable to execute screen passes to RBs? They seem able to get some production from WR screens on occasion, and sometimes TEs, but I can't remember the last time Stanford's offense executed a screen pass to a RB that went for any amount of yards that could be considered a success. Can they even execute them in practice?
When was the last time a team ran a successful running back screen against us (I've seen plenty of bubble screens, but I don't remember a successful old school screen against us in a long time). Come to think of it, I don't remember the last time I saw a college team run a screen successfully in a long time. I am a very big fan of the screen, but I think college football players generally have gotten a lot better at recognizing the screen so you rarely see it run.
Also, in our particular case, a screen tends to work best when the defense is keying in on rushing the passer. But the defenses we play against are keying in on the run, and so are unlikely to progress upfield quickly against a pass play, and thus are less likely to be vulnerable to a screen.
