We jumped Wisconsin (was 6 in AP, now 18), Auburn (was 7, now 9) and Notre Dame (was 8, is 8), while LSU jumped us (was 12, now 6). For most purposes I'm not a believer in the eyeball test - it's all in the W's - but, for early stage polls, not so much. And we sure don't look to me like the #7 team in the country. Hope they prove me wrong!
Other relevant AP polls results - UW tied for 10th w/PSU. Oregon stays at #20. BYU slips in at #25. San Diego State received 5 votes, which would make it #38, well behind ASU. (That seems odd to me.)
has us #16. UW is #6, Utah 28, WSU 30, USC 36, and Oregon 39. That, I'm afraid, seems more accurate than the polls. The Pac 12 is NOT good this year.
He has Pac 12 North as #3 (behind SEC W and Big 10 E) and Pac 12 as #8, behind the Big 12, ACC Atlantic, SEC E, and ACC Coastal.
OTOH, his numbers make us 9 point favorites over Oregon at a neutral field and 6.5 or so at Autzen. Also, Notre Dame is #26 and, as of now, we'd be 2 point favorites in South Bend.
I think that we should be the same ranking (#9 or 10) after playing a tough but FCS nevertheless UC Davis opponent. However....I'll take it (the move to #7)...now we just have to prove that the ranking is real by starting to beat Oregon and Notre Dame over the next two weeks. The offensive identity is still starting to come around and the defense continues to improve overall week to week.
