Someone needs to ask David Shaw why he insists on running into stacked fronts and doesn't make teams pay for single coverage on WRs more consistently. I believe he thinks the OL can ultimately impose its will and that only happens by trying to wear down the defense.  But anyone will tell you defensive lines get much more tired by pass rushing. So you could do a lot of passing early, tire out the defense and run on it later in the game.  This is exactly what Bill Walsh did.

While insisting on running into stacked fronts accounts for the problems in games 1 and 2, that wasn't what occurred against Davis while the starters were in. The run/pass breakdown on first down was even between runs and passes.
