Has Carburry changed the blocking schemes? As for play calling – I get the criticisms. But sometimes I think that the narrative does not fit the reality. For example – Todd Husak commented after the game that Stanford needs to run the ball more on first down. Now I think Husak is terrific. I like the fact that he’s critical. But I didn’t agree with him when I heard the comment. So to check it out I looked up the play chart to see what Stanford did on first down why Costello was in the game. They ran 22 first down place. They passed on 12 of them.
I think way too much emphasis is put on playcalling. I’m more interested in game plans. And frankly where I am most critical of Shaw is on what I see as a fairly simplistic passing game. I’d like to see way more variety – slants, drag routes, swing passes, outs use the whole field. They simply don’t seem to diversify their passing game very much.
