Not to mention WWC next year, given rehab.
Damn, I was hoping the boot was for a high-ankle sprain or strain, not a break, even though that's what I first thought when she went down.
As an aside, one interesting thing for me as a keeper has been watching the incredible shrinking shinguard over the last few years. It used to be from right above the ankle, such that they often were combined with ankle protection, to a free floating pad much higher up the shin. While most of the field players I know like the smaller guards, I've been worried about the space below them but above the boot as a vulnerability, and that's what shot through my mind when I saw the initial replay.
As a keeper whose shins get nailed mostly on going down and attacking the ball (which leads to a pretty random contact point on the length of my shin), I've been trying to find a more protective/larger guard, and they just aren't making them any more.
Oh, and, in line with 2006, f$ck Anson Dorrance and the Tar Holes. Schedule UVa, or Duke, or any other traditional East Coast power if you want. But after Boissiere, and Davidson, and Pabon, not to mention the fact that we have more than enough powerhouses on the West Coast now, I don't think there's a need to play the University of Non-existent Classes.
