I mean it's possible, of course. But faking a miscommunication to the running back didn't really buy the Ducks anything; the key was the run/pass option, and I suppose it's possible that it was always meant to be that. But the misplay allowed our defense to have a bunch of guys on that side of the field. The big problem is that they all shaded Herbert and nobody covered the receiver.
