I told a buddy of mine I think Adebo will be Stanford's best CB since Darrien Gordon. And yes, that includes Sherman, who while good at Stanford, became better at the NFL level given his position switch from WR to CB. He just became better with more reps at the position.
This is conjecture on my part, but I think that our injuries at safety resulted in Anderson/Akina adjusting the game plan to play off the receivers. Herbert had been struggling a bit with accuracy, and the receivers had struggled with drops (why didn't they do that against us). I suspect the thinking was that with less experienced safeties, you don't want Oregon to beat you over the top. It was clearly a mistake, but we started playing tighter in the second half. And in overtime, where the field limits the downside of of teams beating you over the top, we played a lot tighter.
But I agree that our cornerbacks are talented enough to play tight coverage going forward and the game plan should take that into account.
