Hey, you're jumping the gun here. Typically, before the game starts the zeitgeist is "this week will really show where we are" whereas after the game we revert to "turns out XX wasn't very good and we don't know anything yet".

And by the way, those two things aren't a paradox, they go together naturally when you don't think the opponent is as good as their ranking.

Oregon might be the exception that proves the rule.  I came away with a higher regard for Oregon coming out of the game than I did going in.  Their defense (especially against the pass) needs work, but they have a strong and dynamic offense, with a stud QB and an above-average running game.  They will give UW a game, and I will be interested to see what they do to Cal next week.
