I sit right above Ratcliffe and I repeatedly hear him urge Smith, Pickett, and others (especially Smith), when they are on this side of the field with the ball facing one defender with some room, to go at them and take them on. They almost never do. Not sure why, they probably practice it a lot I would guess/hope. I don't know if he wants the players to go one-on-one when they are at the top of the box, haven't heard him call out in those situations. Macario, on the other hand, doesn't hesitate to take 3 players on at the same time, when she probably should pass more--but the assist vs. UNC supports her.
