You are! Lampl/Yee didn’t have it, losing 6-3, 6-2 to the Kansas pair, while Arbuthnott/Gordon are consolation champions, taking that title 8-3.
Over at St. Mary’s, Niluka Madurawe raced to the title, beating Cal’s Maria Smith 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match. Yes, that’s a player who won’t even be in our lineup absolutely dominating Cal’s #4 from last year. (And quite the turnaround from how thoroughly Smith beat our Sara Choy. But trying to glean much out of one common opponent is interesting, but ultimately not of much use. On any given day, and all that....)
So, that’s 2 of 3 possible titles on the day, which is a heck of a result.
