I too was disappointed that Mora was axed, as I am sure Shaw is.  But I’m not sure how accurate the idea that mora was not a good recruiter is.  UCLA was consistently at or near the top of the recruiting rankings during Moras tenure,

I don't think you learn more about a coach by ignoring one of the most important jobs they do. 
Though you may learn about relative strengths and weaknesses by … well looking at their strengths and weaknesses.
