The article triggered a thought.  I have seen numerous instances watching college football where a pass was clearly uncatchable, and yet pass interference gets called.  I realize that it is a subjective determination, so reasonable people can disagree.  Nonetheless, there are times that the call is not reasonable in that respect.  I am not able to pull up recollections of specific situations, but if PI is not called and the crowd roars it's disapproval, I don't remember announcers speculating that the reason was possibly that the ball could not have been caught, even in the event that the offending player had not interfered.  It is still part of the rule, right?  Do others hear that explanation offered as the reason for non-calls?
