You comment allows me to bring up yet again my contention that this team plays better when Scarlett is out there. While he did have that tripping penalty (at which point they took him out), the team and more yards and more points with him in. I think Speights has improved in many ways, but he still gets stuffed a lot. Scarlett seems to be more able to make something from nothing. He isn't as fast as Speights, but he is a good receiver and is a bit heavier. So why is Speights now the #2 back? Any ideas here?
Didn't Speights pick up the blitz that allowed Costello to throw the touchdown pass to JJAW? Don't underestimate the importance of pass blocking for a Stanford running back.
Of course, Scarlett is pretty good pass blocking as well.
