And, my goodness, the results keep coming.
Today, our two freshmen—who are highly unlikely to see the court this spring—knocked off Cal’s #1 and #2 players, with Choy beating Rosenqvist 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, and Madurawe beating Bright 7-6, 7-6.
We took care of Washington’s top two players as well, with Lampl scoring a terrific win over Fung, 6-4, 7-6, and Shin knocking off Wong 7-5, 6-1.
Also through to the quarterfinals are Melissa Lord (who struggled a bit to put away St. Mary’s Kozyreva, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and Emily Arbuthnott, who rolled 6-0, 6-2.
Gordon’s match hasn’t gone final yet (or at least hasn’t been uploaded), but pending that result, only one non-Stanford player is through to the quarters, and that’s Cal’s Olivia Hauger, who beat Higuchi rather handily. No shame there, though; Hauger is Cal’s #3 and a tough matchup for Emma.
But that’s six spots in the quarters, folks. And it might soon be seven. Goodness.
