Ugh, what a disappointing result for Lord. She’s just too good to drop a set 6-1 to Hauger, though Hauger is good, too! This tournament isn’t the one that matters, so if Lord were doing some “range finding” to better calibrate those sideline and baseline shots, that’s morw important than booking a win. But, obviously, winning is good and has its own positive effects on your game.
Lampl can keep Hauger from booking a trip to Fall Nationals by winning that semi, and it should be a great match. Lampl is playing great here, and Hauger had just taken the first set in a tiebreaker over Lampl last year when the match was called.
The other semi will be Gordon (who beat Madurawe 6-3, 6-2) against the Arbuthnott/Shin winner.
The results from the Lampl-Choy and Gordon-Madurawe matches are basically what I would consider ideal. The better, more experienced players prevailed, but they had to work for it. (5 games across 2 sets was the standard for keeping a match from blowout territory when I played; not sure if that’s still the case.)
