With that win over Hauger, Lampl books a spot at Fall Nationals! She was already going in doubles, but she's now qualified for both singles and doubles. Assuming the at-large berths work as expected, this will be the group we send to that tournament:
Singles: Gordon, Lord, Arbuthnott, and Lampl
Doubles: Arbuthnott/Gordon and Lampl/Yee
And Gordon pulled it off 7-5, 6-1, so that's just about perfect. She books her own spot at Fall Nationals (though she was a lock to get an at-large berth).
Madurawe/Yee beat Fung/Zupancic by a 7-5, 6-4 scoreline, so both winning teams had to put in some work today (Cal's Bright/Dunk won their match, 7-6, 7-6).
Both finals will be tomorrow at 11:00am at Taube:
Singles: (2) Gordon vs. (9) Lampl
Doubles: (4) Madurawe/Yee vs. (7) Bright/Dunk (Cal)
Singles: Gordon, Lord, Arbuthnott, and Lampl
Doubles: Arbuthnott/Gordon and Lampl/Yee
Quote:In the other semifinal, I want Gordon to win for the same reason I wanted Lampl to beat Choy and Gordon to beat Madurawe. I want our best players to consistently be our best players. I want Gordon to have a little more of a killer instinct than she did last year, so ideally, Arbuthnott pushes her, but Gordon finds another gear and pulls it off. Something like last year's Northwest Regional championship scoreline of 7-5, 6-2 would fit the bill nicely.
