And Gordon breaks Lampl again to take the first set, 6-4. A lot of exciting shots from Lampl in that first set, with great court movement, but a lot of unforced errors as well. Gordon, by contrast, covered a lot of ground and did very well, but didn't find much of a rhythm on her serve, though she didn't have to get outside herself.
Cal won three straight games in doubles to take a lead in the first set, 6-5, with Yee serving to force a tiebreaker.
Gordon leads 6-4, 1-0 after holding to open the second set. It's weird to watch Lampl be so restrained in a match--perhaps she just doesn't feel like shouting so much when she's playing a teammate--so perhaps playing Gordon is keeping Lampl from emotionally getting into the match.
A tiebreaker now for the first set in doubles!
Cal takes the tiebreaker 7-1 and leads 7-6.
Meanwhile, back on singles, Gordon was up 3-1, 40-15, in the second set, but Lampl won three straight points to get back on serve at 3-2 down.
Current Associate Head Coach Frankie Brennan has just joined the broadcast team, so this is as close as you're going to get to hearing the coaching staff talk about current players. Good stuff on the differing styles between Gordon and Lampl.
Gordon breaks Lampl again and quickly consolidates to go up 6-4, 5-2. Lampl serving now to stay in the match.
