I think you're a little tough on them, and their opportunities to advance. Hard to look good against Seattle tonight. They weren't good enough to force us to do much on defense (they got off 3 shots and forced 0 saves) and they packed the defense. And the game never felt in doubt, in the stands or (probably, and perhaps unfortunately, to the players). Hard game to have a sense of urgency in.
BTW, I think for a while (not long, or long enough) Girma WAS playing defensive mid and Hiatt moved to center back. JoJo Harber was playing the left back, with Kiki on the right.
Also I don't think Abby Greubel was dressed - presumably another injury. But no new injureis tonight.
My biggest beef was poor finishing. We had 24 shots but forced only 3 saves. OTOH, we had, I believe, four posts (one converted on a rebound) and 1 bar. But we had far too many good opportunities go over the bar.
I was very happy to Malatsky. She buried that rebound to get her first Stanford goal. That makes her our 17tgh player to score this year. I think only 20 non-goalies have played for us this year.
Next Friday we play the winner of tomorrow's Ole Miss/Clemson match. If we win, we get the winner of Hofstra v. Wisconsin as Hofstra upset #4 regibnal seed BC, 4-1. #2 seed Tennessee plays Arizona (a big winner) on the other side of the bracket and #3 seed Texas A&M plays TCU.
I'd make our chances of advancing, assuming more Cat and Jaye from here on in and Tegan and Madison coming back for games 3 or 4, at, for the next three games, 95%, 85% (note - #4 seed is gone), and 75%. College Cup - who knows? I wouldn't make us favorites but we have beaten UNC, UCLA, USC, and Santa Clara - all high seeds - this year. If Davidson can come back for the Cup, that would help a lot. No chance on Smith, who was on crutched and in a cast. But Tierna seemed to be walking easily.
