I'm OK with the P12 not being the SEC-West.

I think that's a false choice. The P12 can be far more relevant - and better-run - without being the SEC-West. I think the important points of these articles (now 2/4, can't wait for 3 & 4) is to highlight how poorly the conference is being run under Larry Scott and comparing his results to not only the SEC but the other conferences as well.
- Pac-12 expenses are WAY too high
- Pac-12 revenues are too low
- Pac-12 Network is a flop
- Pac-12 officiating is a laughingstock
- Larry Scott is a tone-deaf spokesperson for the conference
