I'd say that would be another questionable metric.
The problem is, the question "is the coach doing a good job" is far too complex to be answered by one number. Except of course win-loss record, though that is obviously devoid of nuance and doesn't seem to be what you are after.
Even if the question is restricted to "is the coach doing a good job in things other than recruiting" (which seems to be what you are getting at - certainly what BC's suggestion is getting at), that's still rather difficult for any single number.
